The Associated Press released its first installment of the women’s basketball top 25 Tuesday, and the Big Ten was well represented near the top.
Two Big Ten teams ranked in the top 10, with Maryland coming in at sixth and Ohio State right behind the Terps at No. 7. Indiana checked in at No. 23 and Michigan State just missed a ranking and was the team receiving the most votes outside of the top 25.
The Terrapins are the defending Big Ten champions – both in the regular season and in the conference tournament. They went 16-2 in the conference last season and 30-3 overall before ducking out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round against Washington.
Ohio State was right on the heels of Maryland last season, and that’s where the Buckeyes will start this season. Ohio State went 15-3 in the Big Ten last season and had an overall record of 24-7. The Buckeyes made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Tennessee.
The entire preseason top 25 can be found here. The men’s poll was released Monday.
