On Friday, the NCAA announced seven new sites for 2016 and 2017 championships that were relocated from North Carolina last month.
The action was taken by the NCAA Board of Governors “because of the cumulative actions taken by the state concerning civil rights protections.”
Perhaps most notably, the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship first/second round games which were to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, have now been moved to Greenville, South Carolina. Those games will be played March 17 and 19 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Other revised Division I championship sites are as follows:
- 2016 Division I Women’s Soccer College Cup — Dec. 2 and 4 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California.
- 2017 Division I Women’s Golf Championships — May 8-10 at University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia.
- 2017 Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship — May 27-June 3 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
