Michigan and Michigan State both got some good news on Christmas Day from the recruiting trails.
Mekhi Becton, a Class of 2017 3-star offensive tackle prospect from Highland Springs, Va., according to 247Sports, announced his top 5 schools on Sunday. In addition to Michigan and Michigan State, Becton listed Louisville, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Making Becton’s top 5 is definitely good news for the Spartans; they have four offensive linemen commitments in this class but all are offensive guards. A commitment from Becton would be a big pick up for Michigan State, as he would provide some much-needed depth on the offensive line for Mark Dantonio’s Spartans.
Michigan, on the other hand, has five offensive linemen commits in this class, four tackles and a center, meaning Becton would join an already deep offensive line class in Ann Arbor. A commitment to the Wolverines would also mean joining one of the nation’s best recruiting classes.
Becton, who’s the 16th-best overall prospect in the state of Virginia and the 41st-best offensive line prospect in the nation, had other Big Ten offers, from Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska and Maryland.
