Indiana-Rutgers basketball preview
Indiana is in its first year under coach Archie Miller. The Hoosiers have had its up and downs this season, and currently, is in the middle of a four-game losing streak. The team is 12-12 overall and 5-7 in Big Ten play.
The 5-7 record in conference has Indiana in ninth-place in the conference standings. The Hoosiers are led in both scoring and rebounding by Juwan Morgan.
Morgan is a 6-foot-8 junior forward who is shooting over 58 percent from the field this season. Robert Johnson is the only other Hoosier averaging over 10 points per game, as he is scoring 13.2 per contest. The team’s third leading scorer in terms of average, De’Ron Davis, has played in only 15 games this season and has been out since early January with an achilles injury.
The meeting between Indiana and Rutgers will be its only one in the regular season. Last year, Indiana won the only contest at home, 76-57.
For Rutgers, the team is in its second year under coach Steve Pikiell. Pikiell’s group went 15-18 in his first season.
The Scarlet Knights started this year with a 10-3 record, but have since gone 2-10 and now has a 12-13 overall record. The team is 2-10 in Big Ten play this season and currently in last place of the Big Ten standings.
Rutgers is led by Corey Sanders, who averages a team-high 14.2 points per game. The Scarlet Knights also have Geo Baker and Deshawn Freeman, who average 11.6 and 11.3 per contest as well.
In last year’s matchup between the two teams — which ended in a 19-point victory for Indiana — Sanders scored a game-high 17 points.
