Michigan has some unexpected competition for 4-star prospect George Karlaftis, a top-rated defensive end from Indiana.
Karlaftis, a West Lafayette, Ind., native, listed Michigan, Miami (Fla.) and Purdue in his list of top three schools.

According to the 247Sports composite, Karlaftis is ranked as the second-best prospect in the state of Indiana as well as the 18th-best defensive end prospect nationally. Furthermore, he’s ranked as the 197th-best player overall in 247Sports composite.
Karlaftis also holds nine total offers. Among the schools to offer him besides Michigan, Purdue and Miami were Indiana, Notre Dame and Alabama. However, Karlaftis did take an unofficial visit to Ohio State, who has not offered him a scholarship.
Since he took an unofficial visit, there’s a chance could possibly make this list a top four should they offer Karlaftis. It’s also interesting to note, 247Sports predicts Michigan will be the one to land Karlaftis.
Purdue currently does not have any commits in the class of 2019, and getting a commit from a prospect as highly-rated as Karlaftis would be a great way to kick off the 2019 cycle.
It is worth noting that West Lafayette is also where Purdue is located, however it speaks volumes to what coach Jeff Brohm is doing at Purdue to keep the Boilermakers in the deep running for a top-rated prospect.
