The prediction fun isn’t done just yet. FOX Sports‘ Bruce Feldman revealed his Big Ten picks on Tuesday, with Michigan predicted to beat Iowa for the conference championship.
But in many ways, the most interesting part about Feldman’s predictions are the records. Take a look:
1. Iowa 10-2 (7-2)
2. Nebraska 8-4 (5-4)
3. Northwestern 8-4 (5-4)
4. Minnesota 7-5 (4-5)
5. Wisconsin 6-6 (4-5)
6. Purdue 4-8 (2-7)
7. Illinois 4-8 (2-7)
Feldman’s conference records show, again, just how wide open this division race appears to be — only one game separates Nos. 2-5. It’s a little surprising to see Wisconsin only .500, but considering the Badgers’ schedule starts with LSU and includes visits to Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State, there are many potential falls.
As for Purdue, that 4-8, no-bowl season probably won’t save Darrell Hazell’s job. Purdue would be looking for a new head coach.
1. Michigan 11-1 (8-1)
2. Ohio State 9-3 (7-2)
3. Michigan State 8-4 (6-3)
4. Penn State 8-4 (6-3)
5. Maryland 6-6 (3-6)
6. Indiana 5-7 (2-7)
7. Rutgers 4-8 (2-7)
There are some eye-raising things here. Michigan State probably isn’t thinking it’ll go anywhere near 8-4 with three Big Ten defeats. Penn State fans likely wouldn’t mind 8-4, though it looks like that one non-conference loss would be to Pitt.
Then there’s the Michigan-Ohio State debate. Those two have taken up all the Big Ten oxygen this offseason (not that Michigan State minds being the underdog) so here they are again competing for the division title — at least for Feldman. Looks like he has a little more faith with the Wolverines.
Championship: Michigan beats Iowa
If that’s the case, a 12-1 Michigan team would be almost impossible to keep out of the College Football Playoff.
