You’d better place your bet on L.J. Scott now.
Using odds from Bookmaker.eu, FOX Sports’ Dieter Kurtenbach pieced together a list of “10 sleepers who could win the Heisman Trophy,” and the Michigan State running back (at 250-to-1) is one of four Big Ten players on the list.
The others are Michigan quarterback John O’Korn (60-to-1), Penn State running back Saquon Barkley (80-to-1) and Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard (175-to-1).
O’Korn is particularly interesting, considering Michigan has yet to name its starting quarterback. The analyst explains that his pick is more about the Wolverines than the QB himself.
This is a bet on Michigan more than O’Korn, who is the frontrunner to win the starting quarterback job for the Wolverines this year. If he performs as well as he did at Houston and Michigan is the best team in the Big Ten — as many expect them to be – it would hardly be a shock to see O’Korn in New York.
It’s an interesting list to ponder, considering the scenarios if a player has a breakout year and leads his team to glory. Kurtenbach took a value approach to ranking the list, ending with Iowa State’s Mike Warren as his top sleeper.
Now that would be something.
