There are four Big Ten teams in the current AP Poll’s top 10, and the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch definitely took note.
Four Big Ten coaches were named to the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award watch list Wednesday, reflecting the success each team has enjoyed so far this season; Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst and Nebraska’s Mike Riley were all named to the award’s watch list.
The award, which is cut down to five-10 finalists December, will be presented to the winner at an awards banquet Jan. 11, 2017.
Meyer, Harbaugh and Riley each have their teams at a 6-0 record, while Chryst’s Badgers are 4-2, losing only to Michigan and Ohio State. Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin rank No. 2, No. 3, No. 8 and No. 10 in the AP Poll, respectively.
Riley, who’s Nebraska team can be considered one of the biggest surprises of the season, played for “Bear” Bryant as a cornerback for Alabama from 1971 to 1974.
