The 2016 College Football Playoff field has finally been announced. No. 1 Alabama will play No. 4 Washington in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, while No. 2 Clemson takes on No. 3 Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. Both games will be played on New Year’s Eve before the national title game on Monday, Jan. 11.
Big Ten champion Penn State finds itself on the outside looking in. The Nittany Lions have a league title and a head-to-head win over Ohio State, but ultimately, a loss to Pitt in September is what likely kept them out.
Unbeaten Alabama was the consensus No. 1 all season. One-loss Ohio State had the best resume, beating three top-10 teams — Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Michigan. One-loss Clemson didn’t look perfect at times but did enough to earn the No. 2 seed.
Penn State was left on the outside looking in at No. 5 and Michigan came in at No. 6.
