The College Football Playoff committee met much opposition when it scheduled its semifinals on New Year’s Eve. So it adjusted.
The annual semifinals will now be played on either Saturday or New Year’s Day, with one on New Year’s Eve, the committee announced Thursday morning. It will run through 2025-26.
“We looked at the replay,” CFP head Bill Hancock told USA Today, “and we reversed the call.”

TV ratings were down 40 percent in 2015 when the games were held on New Year’s Eve as opposed to 2014, when they were on New Year’s Day.
The games are expected to begin at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET.
