Cactus Bowl 2017: Kansas State-UCLA preview
Since the Cactus Bowl was created in 1989, it has been played in Arizona.
However, the location of the game has varied throughout the years. From 1989-99, the game was played at Arizona Stadium in Tuscan before being played at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix from 2000-05. From 2006-15, the game was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. It has been played at Chase Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks, in Phoenix since 2016.
In addition, the name of the bowl game has undergone some changes throughout the years.

- 2014-present: Cactus Bowl
While the current game features a matchup of a Big 12 team and a Pac-12 team, there have been several conferences represented in this bowl game since its inception. This includes, the Big Ten, the Big East and the Western Athletic Conference.
In last year’s Cactus Bowl, Baylor defeated Boise State, 31-12, on Dec. 27, 2016. Baylor wide receiver KD Cannon and Baylor defensive end Tyrone Hunt took home the offensive and defensive MVP Awards for this game, respectively.
Kansas State will be making its fourth appearance in this bowl game, where it has gone 2-1, while UCLA will be making its first appearance.
UCLA will look to win its first bowl game since 2014, where it defeated Kansas State, 40-35, in the Alamo Bowl. The Bruins last played in a bowl game in 2015, but fell to Nebraska, 37-29, in the Foster Farms Bowl.
Meanshile, Kansas State will look to win its second straight bowl game. The Wildcats won the 2016 Texas Bowl by defeating Texas A&M, 33-28, last year.
UCLA might be without QB Josh Rosen. The junior quarterback, who is expected to declare for the NFL Draft after the season, has put together a solid year, throwing for 3,756 yards and 26 touchdowns. His top option at receiver has been Jordan Lasley, who has made 61 catches for 1,136 yards and 8 touchdowns this season.
Although Kansas State has lost its top two quarterbacks to injury this season, freshman Skylar Thompson has led the Wildcats to a 2-1 record in his three starts. Kansas State will look to running back Alex Barnes to carry a heavy load in the game, as he has rushed for 702 yards and 6 touchdowns on 134 carries this season.
The Big 12 has gone 15-12 in this bowl game, while the Pac-12 has gone 10-7.
