Michigan State is still considered the favorite to win this year’s college basketball national championship, according to the latest odds from Bovada. The No. 5 Spartans faltered twice in January and there is turmoil surrounding their head coach, but nobody has better odds than Michigan State’s 5/1 chances.
No. 1 Villanova has the second-best odds at 11/2 and Duke is listed with a 6/1 chance. Purdue and Virginia round out the top five contenders with 7/1 odds. College basketball blue bloods Arizona and Kansas were next with 16/1 odds.
College basketball reporter Adam Zagoria posted a list of Bovada’s top contenders.

While Michigan State and Purdue have good chances, Ohio State and Michigan are the only other Big Ten teams on the board. The Buckeyes are a 66/1 long shot for the title in Chris Holtmann’s first year, while the Wolverines are slightly behind their rivals at 75/1.
In a season where there has been plenty of turnover at the top of the polls, these odds could change significantly again before the start of the NCAA Tournament. Purdue was a 40/1 long shot when Bovada released its last odds in early January and is now one of the favorites to win it all.
