Sports may be one of the lone things that’s keeping this country sane during this election year.
But even sports figures have been dragged into the craziness and on Thursday, CBS Sports released a list of 59 sports figures who are donors to political campaigns.
Not all of this is breaking news, but a few Big Ten sports figures such as coaches, former coaches and former players have donated to one campaign or another.
Here’s how it shakes out for the conference.
Starting with Donald Trump, only one athlete with Big Ten ties was on the donation list in former Nebraska offensive lineman Richie Incognito, who gave $500.
Former Indiana and college basketball head coaching great Bob Knight has also endorsed Trump.
As for the Republican Party in general, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer donated $2,700 and publicly endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich, who attempted to run for the party’s presidential nominee earlier this year.
Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz also donated, giving $2,700 to candidate Chris Christie.
There was a much longer list of donors for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party with some notable Big Ten names in there as well.
Former Michigan State basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson has publicly endorsed Clinton and donated $2,700. Former Penn State fullback Franco Harris also donated $2,700 to Clinton.
Under Armour CEO and Maryland graduate Kevin Plank donated $2,700 to Clinton as well.
Again, the whole list can be seen here.
