After Alabama at No. 1, CBS Sports is all about the Big Ten.
In CBS Sports’ 128 rankings, four Big Ten teams found a spot in the Top 10. Not surprisingly, Ohio State leads the pack at No. 2, but Michigan jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 despite being on a bye.
Wisconsin also dropped only one spot after almost beating No. 2 Ohio State this past Saturday. The Badgers are No. 10.
Outside the top 4, Penn State is seen as the league’s best hope for another Top 25 team. The Nittany Lions, even though they didn’t play last week, improved three spots to No. 34. If Penn State stuns Ohio State this weekend, the Nittany Lions would probably find a home in next week’s Top 25. But a loss also likely wouldn’t hurt Penn State too much if the Nittany Lions keep it close.
Iowa is also making a move, as the Hawkeyes moved up eight spots into the 30s at No. 38 — and now the Badgers are next.
Of the 14 Big Ten teams, Northwestern got the biggest boost, going from No. 73 to No. 63 after the 54-40 win at Michigan State. Not surprisingly, that means the Spartans had the league’s biggest fall, dropping 22 spots to No. 82. Michigan State has now dropped four in a row.
