Of the 12 Butkus Award semifinalists, four call the Big Ten home.
The Butkus Award, which goes to the nation’s top linebacker, announced its 2016 semifinalists on Monday. Here are the Big Ten players:
- Jerome Baker, Ohio State
- Jack Cichy, Wisconsin
- Josey Jewell, Iowa
- Raekwon McMillan, Ohio State
The Cichy selection is notable because the star linebacker is out for the rest of the season because of a torn pectoral. He had 60 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles before getting sidelined for the remainder of the season.
McMillan was a 2015 finalist. This season, he has a team-high 51 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 3 pass breakups. Teammate Baker is third on the Buckeyes with 48 tackles. He also has 6 tackles for loss and a 68-yard touchdown on his interceptions at Oklahoma.
Finally, Jewell leads Iowa with 77 total tackles. He has 3.5 tackles for loss and 4 passes broken up.
