Each year at the Big Ten Media Days, BTN.com surveys a player from all 14 schools and asks a number of questions, such as which team has the best helmet, the coach they would most like to play for and more.
The answers are in. There’s possibly a few surprises, depending on which team you root for.
According to the survey, responses were anonymous, and players couldn’t pick their own school for a question.
For the 2017 Big Ten favorite, six players voted Ohio State, three each voted Penn State and Wisconsin, and one player each voted Michigan and Indiana.
The Buckeyes again took the crown for the best helmet with four votes, while Maryland got three, Michigan State got two and Minnesota, Nebraska, the Badgers, the Nittany Lions and the Wolverines each got one.
The Terps were voted as the team with the best uniform with four votes, followed by the Lions with three, Northwestern and the Buckeyes with two, and the Hoosiers, Wolverines and Golden Gophers with one.
For best road environment, Penn State took the crown easily with six votes. Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State finished tied for second place with two votes each, and Rutgers and the Wolverines followed with one apiece.
The coach they’d most like to play for was split several ways. Kirk Ferentz (Iowa), Jim Harbaugh (Michigan) and Mark Dantonio (Michigan State), each got three votes. Urban Meyer (Ohio State) received two votes. And tallying one vote each were Lovie Smith (Illinois), D.J. Durkin (Maryland) and P.J. Fleck (Minnesota).
It was a runaway for best mascot as Sparty (Michigan State) had 10 votes, while Testudo (Maryland), Purdue Pete and Bucky (Wisconsin) each had one.
Iowa and Minnesota were voted to have the best road locker rooms with four votes each, followed by Michigan State and Nebraska with two votes, and the Michigan and Penn State with one each.
The best campus went to the Badgers with four votes, while the Gophers, Buckeyes and Lions each got two. Receiving one vote each were the Hawkeyes, Spartans, Huskers and Wildcats.
Rap and hip hop won the vote for preferred pregame music vote with four votes each. Rock received two votes and with one each were reggae, Christian, metal and electronic dance music.
With seven votes, the Penn State’s Saquon Barkley was the top rival player wanted to to add, followed by his teammate Marcus Allen with two votes. After the Penn State pair, J.T. Barrett (Ohio State), Wilton Speight (Michigan), Rodney Smith (Minnesota) and Billy Price (Ohio State) each received one vote.
For favorite social media site, Instagram had seven votes, Twitter got five and Snapchat got two.
Rounding it out, eight players voted for an expanded playoff while six voted against.
