Frank Kaminsky was the last Big Ten player to claim the Naismith Trophy, in 2015.
Duke’s Grayson Allen is the favorite to win the award given to college basketball’s best player in 2016-17, but there will be plenty of talent from the Big Ten nipping at his heels.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club released the 50-man watch list for the award, and it includes a whopping 10 names from the conference. That includes three from Wisconsin who will try to match Kaminsky’s feat.
The Badgers are tied for the most players from a single team, with senior forward Nigel Hayes, redshirt sophomore forward Ethan Happ and senior guard Bronson Koenig all on the list.
Indiana has sophomore center Thomas Bryant and junior guard James Blackmon Jr., while five other Big Ten schools have one player each.
Michigan State freshman Miles Bridges, Illinois senior guard Malcolm Hill, Iowa senior guard Peter Jok, Purdue sophomore forward Caleb Swanigan and Maryland junior guard Melo Trimble round out the list.
Kentucky, Duke and Kansas are the only teams with the same number of players on the list as Wisconsin. Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield won the award last season.
