Though the Big Ten is not represented in the College Football Playoff, eight conference teams will play in bowl games this winter. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg offered his predictions for all of the games, and he generally seems to think Big Ten teams will have success.
Here are his predictions:
Cotton Bowl: Ohio State 34, USC 30
Orange Bowl: Wisconsin 23, Miami 17
Outback Bowl: Michigan 23, South Carolina 14
Fiesta Bowl: Washington 37, Penn State 35
Music City Bowl: Northwestern 34, Kentucky 27
Holiday Bowl: Washington State 35, Michigan State 31
Foster Farms Bowl: Purdue 35, Arizona 31
New Era Bowl: Iowa 19, Boston College 16
The Buckeyes had the best chance of representing the conference in the CFP, having defeated Wisconsin, 27-21, on Saturday to win the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State was ultimately excluded from the four-team field, though, with Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and Alabama getting the nods.
If Rittenberg’s predictions are any indication, though, it can still be a successful winter for the Big Ten. He chose 6/8 Big Ten teams to win their bowl games, with Penn State and Michigan State being the only predicted losers.
